Guns are used in more than 31,000 deaths annually, of which 20,000 are suicides and 11,000 are homicides. The gun homicide total is slightly less than vehicle fatalities but more than such unintentional trauma deaths like poisoning, or falls.

Gun injuries result in at least 40,000 initial medical consultations annually, a number considered by many experts to be under-stated by as much as 30%.

The total number of individuals who are wounded or threatened with guns each year is estimated to be in excess of 440,000.  This number has increased by at least 20% since 2010.
